The students in the Norwich University capstone class IA456 will be conducting vulnerability assessments and/or network penetration testing to the needs and requirements of clients at no cost – FREE. Students will meet with the clients for consultations and establish a contract and detailed statement of work. Students will conduct the vulnerability assessments and/or pen-testing requirements per the contract terms. The students will deliver the findings from their assessment activities and suggested corrective measures in the form of a report. If desired by the client, spokespeople from each team can provide the report in person. The contract agreed upon by the student teams and the clients will contain requirements such as:
- Network segments that may be declared as off-limits
- Whether or not students may interact with company employees
- Constraints on hours where the students may access business property
- Whether the client business wishes for a full network penetration test or a defined scope for a vulnerability assessment.
Students will also draw up and adhere to the terms of a nondisclosure agreement (NDA). While the tasks within the parameters of the capstone class require expertise with tools, the emphasis of the class is on interacting with clients and working within the constraints of legal documents.
