Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI) was federally chartered under legislation sponsored by Sen. Patrick Leahy in 2002 and is funded in part through the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. NUARI was established as a national center to address cyber incident management challenges through research, training programs and technology development and has been a global leader for more than a decade in developing cyber war gaming, distributed learning technology, distributed simulation technology, critical infrastructure exercises, and cyber security.

Job Description


Performs highly advanced research work. Work involves overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects pertaining to criminal justice, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment.


A. Oversees, plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors research studies, data quality improvement projects, and statistical reports and analyses; evaluates and reviews the scope and methodologies of research projects within assigned tasks.

B. Designs, implements, and conducts data quality improvement reviews, including site visits, consultations with auditors, and solution testing with the Information Systems Section.

C. Compiles statistics from the identified partners to inform all data systems for reports, evaluations, fact sheets, and research studies.

D. Provides training and technical assistance in the program area. Performs various marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.


  • A Ph.D. and industry experience in research
  • Experience in data-driven studies creating requirements
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner; exhibit grace under pressure
  • Authorized to work in the United States
