NUARI Board of Directors Appoints Brian S. Bradke, Ph.D. as New President

November 3, 2025 - Northfield, VT - Brian Bradke, Ph.D., has been appointed President of the Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI) by its Board of Directors, effective December 1, 2025. This leadership transition marks a new chapter for NUARI as it continues its mission in security, information strategies, critical infrastructure, defense supply chain analysis, research, and training.

By driving breakthroughs in cyber defense, critical infrastructure resilience, and secure technology supply chains, NUARI addresses the convergence of modern warfare and digital threats. Dr. Bradke's deep expertise across advanced aerospace, defense R&D, and technology integration ensures continued visionary leadership to strengthen this unique partnership between Norwich and the national security sector," stated Mark D. Young, NU'92, Chairman of the NUARI Board of Directors.

Dr. Bradke brings over two decades of distinguished leadership across aerospace, defense, and biomedical research and development. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and previously served 15 years in the United States Air Force as an F-16 Instructor Pilot.

"NUARI stands at a pivotal moment—poised to expand its reach and deepen its impact across the defense and critical-infrastructure sectors. I'm honored to lead this next phase of growth and to continue Phil Susmann's legacy of mission-driven innovation," said Dr. Bradke.

Most recently, Dr. Bradke served as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Executive Vice President at Spotlight Technologies, where he led the development of advanced aerospace and medical systems integrating AI and human performance analytics. His leadership was instrumental in securing and executing more than $17 million in Department of Defense rapid development contracts for the development of a high-performance biomonitoring and alerting system for aircraft pilots.

Dr. Bradke also served as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Norwich University from 2014 to 2020. He was twice named "Professor of the Year" and mentored student teams that won consecutive NASA undergraduate design competitions, with their work presented before the U.S. Congress. Dr. Bradke has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of aerospace medicine, biosensing, and human performance and holds more than 30 U.S. and international patents. During his tenure at Norwich, Dr. Bradke has served on multiple university committees and contributed to national STEM outreach efforts. His leadership roles in professional and community service organizations further reflect his commitment to advancing scientific research and higher education.

Dr. Bradke is a decorated military officer, having served as an F-16 Instructor Pilot and Chief of Aircrew Training with the 177th Fighter Wing, NJ Air National Guard. He has more than 1,500 flying hours, including two combat tours in Iraq (OIF) and Afghanistan (OEF). His honors include the Major General Francis Gerard Trophy for heroic action in combat, the Air Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Aerial Achievement Medal.
