Announcing the Jack Voltaic Conference Series

Next Previous

Infrastructure resilience is more critical than ever. Digital connectivity makes our infrastructure more efficient yet potentially vulnerable. Cyberattacks rarely affect a single target. Instead, unanticipated effects can ripple across interconnected infrastructure sectors, while varying defensive capabilities and authorities complicate the response. If exploited by a determined adversary, these unidentified gaps leave our nation vulnerable.

Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI) is proud to kick off the Army Cyber Institute’s Jack Voltaic (JV) Conference Series on June 23, 2021.

NUARI’s one-day conference, focusing on technology and critical infrastructure resiliency, will feature speakers that played essential roles in the Jack Voltaic 3.0 Cyber Research Project last September as well as a demo of new exercise automation technology being developed in partnership with Army Cyber Institute, NUARI, 52inc, and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.

NUARI is excited to announce that our keynote speaker, Bryson Bort, will deliver an authentic, unfiltered view on the attacks on our critical infrastructure, national security, and an honest assessment of the response to date.

Bryson is the Founder of SCYTHE, a start-up building a next-generation attack emulation platform, and GRIMM, a boutique cybersecurity consultancy, and Co-Founder of the ICS Village, a non-profit advancing awareness of industrial control system security. He is a Senior Fellow for Cybersecurity and National Security at R Street and the National Security Institute and an Advisor to the Army Cyber Institute. Prior, Bryson led an elite offensive capabilities development group. As a U.S. Army Officer, he served as a Battle Captain and Brigade Engineering Officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom before leaving the Army as a Captain. He was recognized as one of the Top 50 in Cyber in 2020 by Business Insider.

Scheduled presentations will share research findings, tools, and discussions that strengthen critical infrastructure resiliency. The research findings from the JV 3.0 Research Report will be discussed by participants from the exercise, with time for a question-and-answer session.

The JV automated tools will be demonstrated to the audience, and audience members will have a chance to try them out, time permitting. Participants will also be able to participate in a mini-JV workshop, where participants will work through a shortened scenario built using the automated tools and the DECIDE platform, after which participants will discuss their outcomes.

The JV Conference Series, conducted in partnership with Norwich University Applied Research Institutes, The Army Cyber Institute at West Point, Georgia Cyber Center, The Citadel, and the University of Illinois, will run from June 2021 through May 2022.

The JV Conference Series consists of four events hosted by NUARI, The Georgia Cyber Center, The Citadel and the University of Illinois taking place between June 2021 and May 2022.
